Cardinals set to enter seclusion ahead of vote to elect new pope

Cardinals have convened in the Sistine Chapel this Wednesday to select a successor to Pope Francis. Over 130 electors have already attended morning mass at St. Peter’s Basilica and are now sequestered from the outside world, beginning the process of choosing the next leader to unite a diverse yet divided global Church. Voting takes place through paper ballots, and the process will continue until one candidate secures the necessary two-thirds majority, which amounts to 89 votes. France24 Correspondent Seema Gupta tells us the latest from the Vatican.
